Tiivistelmä:This paper aims to develop a motivation-based perspective to explore how organizations resolve the social dilemma of knowledge sharing (KS). Building on a three-category taxonomy of motivation and using case studies collected from the literature, examined are the interactive effects btw. the different motivators in two different types of knowledge-intensive organisations: i. professional bureaucracy and ii. operating adhocracy.
Within i. a professional bureaucracy, the social dilemma of KS may be overcome through normative motivation, with provision of hedonic motivation through extrinsic incentives, e.g. training and career progression. In ii. an operating adhocracy, it may be overcome through normative alignment reinforced by intensive socialisation etc.
