Tiivistelmä:This paper aims to review the growing literature on social capital (SC) and knowledge management (KM). It is sought to identify the causal factors for the recent research into the connection btw. KM and SC, and also to explicate the relationship btw. the most relevant neo-capital theories and KM.
It is found that i. interest in SC from KM scholars is driven by a number of inter-linked causal factors.
ii. SC is significant for KM purposes and can be understood as being complementary to and parallel with other intangible capitalisations, e.g. human capital (HC) and intellectual capital (IC)
iii. there are a number of guiding notions for organizations to adapt to construct and enhance SC for KM purposes. Yet, SC processes are complicated and context-dependent, hence being resistant to micro-management and "one size fits all" prescriptions.
