Tiivistelmä: | This article combines economic and institutional theories of clustering in foreign entry location choice in a social learning conceptualization. Two types of learning are separated: assessment learning, where companies judge the economic feasibility and agglomeration benefits of entering a location by observing and following a large set of models, and bandwagon learning, where company-level uncertainty narrows attention to specific models. It is found broad support for the conceptualization in an analysis of the entries of 692 Japanese electronics companies into Chinese provinces during 1979-2001. |
