| Tiivistelmä: | The topic of residentsÂ’ attitudes towards tourism development has been discussed by many authors, leading us to consider the possibility of proposing a universal model to explain it. The difficulties and progress made in the field are evaluated. The most important contribution of this article is the inclusion of variables for the "tourist behaviour", "tourist density" and "level of tourism development perceived by the resident", either absent or only inadequately incorporated in most models. An enhanced explanatory model is constructed and tested in the case of the Spanish province of Huelva, an emerging destination. The findings have substantial repercussions in the academic field and for tourism planning. |
