Tiivistelmä:This article investigates the importance of education, income, class and status. The findings are based on register data of Swedish employees in the age of 35–59 years. There are clear gradients in total death risk for all socioeconomic factors except income from work among women. For both genders, there are clear relationships between education and mortality. Class and income indicate independent effects on mortality only for men and status indicates an independent effect only for women. While different stratification dimensions all can be used to indicate a "social gradient" with mortality, each of them has a specific effect.
