Tiivistelmä:Based on data gathered in schools in Franca, Brazil, with children often combining school with work in the shoe industry, this study explores the implications of labour market jobs and household work for their health, life satisfaction, and education.
It is suggested that both forms of work negatively impact children's welfare, but the effects of household work are more extensive, particularly for girls.
Focusing on children with labour market jobs, it is examined how facets of their jobs and also their after-work household duties affect their welfare. It is found that a lack of discretion on the job undermine the health of both boys and girls, higher pay adversely affect boys' education, and housework has harmful effects on all indicators of girls' welfare.
