Tiivistelmä: | This article aims to examine more closely the proposition of self-regulation (henceforth as: s-regln.) being effective, especially referencing to the business case (herein as: B-C.) for workplace equality and safety. Based on a comprehensive literature review and analysis, it is found that current predominant management discourse and practice focusing on diversity and safety management systems (OHSMS) resonate well with a corporate and government preference for the B-C. and s-regln. Yet, the centrality of individual rather than organizational factors in diversity and OHSMS means that systemic discrimination and inherent workplace hazards are downplayed etc. Hence, reliance on the B-C. in the argument for s-regln. is problematic. As to the government policy and management practice, there is the need for the B-C. to get supplemented by strong, proactive legislation, and worker involvement. |
