Tiivistelmä:"Tin parachutes" are designed to protect all of a firm's employees in the event of a hostile takeover. The tin parachute is a broad-based severance program which unlike its exclusive "golden" counterpart covers all employees. Based on an examination of the list of companies that have publicly adopted tin parachutes an attempt is made to answer the following questions: 1. What are the features of tin parachute? 2. Why do companies adopt them? 3. How effective are they? 4. What types of companies benefit most from introducing tin parachutes? Impacts on management, employees, the acquirers, shareholders, and society are individually considered. The need for comprehensive human resource packages, good management-labor relations is emphasized.
